ABOUT WELLMAN HARDWARE
Augustus Snyder, who began Wellman Trade Company was a Lawrence County, Ohio native who was born in 1858. He came to Louisa, Kentucky with his older brother, Jeff, to learn the blacksmith trade. In his lifetime, he also became the director of First National Bank, President of Louisa National Bank, President of Louisa-Fort Gay Bridge Company, Mayor of Louisa and resided on the jury that convicted the last man to hang for murder in Lawrence County. Augustus died at the age of 99 and is resting at Pinehill Cemetery in Kentucky.
In 2013, Joel and Rachel Thacker, owners of Wellman Hardware, were introduced to Steve Waggoner, current owner of General Building Supply, through their mutual Wellman Hardware representative and friend. On Dec. 5, 2013, Steve and Sherry purchased Wellman Hardware from Joel and Rachel, and longtime dedicated hardware associate Lorine Bowen. Steve wanted to keep Wellman Hardware true to the original store that the people of Louisa and surrounding communities had always loved and supported.
